Close to Manchester, Salford has developed Transport, Bonding and New technologies industries that replace traditional industries such as coal and fabric industries. The city also encourages sport and leisure building a center of nautical sports and a Performance Center, the “Lowry Center”

The Channel BBC chose Salford to move its offices into the MediaCity UK. Youth, sports, new media, research and developments departments as well as BBC Radio Five Live moved there. Salford University is very close to MediaCity UK, and welcomes more than 20,000 students, offering an ideal place to study.

Twinned since 1966, Clermont-Ferrand and Salford cooperate in numerous areas. In order to promote youth mobility and educational exchanges, the Pole of International Relations and Clermont-Ferrand Academy encourage exchanges between Educational poles of Clermont-Ferrand and Salford. Especially in Higher Education, a partnership was implemented between Clermont-Ferrand Law School and Salford Barrister School. Arts Schools organised crossed exhibitions.

Economy is also at the heart of Clermont-Ferrand and Salford exchanges. In the framework of the international short film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand, the company “Candella Films” and the School of Media, Music and performance of Salford University participate at professional meetings.

With the support of the M.I.R, cultural and athletic meetings are organised. The Chess Championship welcomes players from Salford every year. Artists of our twin city regularly participate at our festivals such as “les Arts en Balade”. In addition, Peter Hook, Salford Rock Star, opened Clermont-Ferrand Europavox Festival in 2010.
