Oyem (Gabon)

  • Geographical situation: 4th city of Gabon, Woleu-Ntem Province ( North-East).


At the Heart of the equatorial forest, Oyem is at the crossroads between Cameroun, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The activity of the city is oriented towards trade and agriculture. Wood Exports represent one of the principal resources of the country, with iron, manganese and oil.
The first exchanges between Clermont-Ferrand and Oyem started in 2004 at the request of the NGO “ Agir pour le Développement”. School furniture from the city of Clermont-Ferrand was given to Schools in Gabon. Since 2006, cooperation between Oyem and Clermont-Ferrand is directed towards water supply access, a priority for population.
Par la suite, de nouvelles collaborations sur les thèmes de l’éducation, de l’hygiène, de la propreté et des services aux citoyens ont été mis en place. La création d’un service de transports scolaires et d’un circuit de collecte des déchets, l’informatisation des services de la ville d’Oyem, l’appui à une coopérative agricole, l’éclairage public du village de Nkang, la construction d’une 2ème école communale, ont été les réalisations principales répondant aux besoins des populations…
Then, new collaborations started in the area of education, health, property, and services to citizens were implemented. The creation of a service of School transportation, a household rubbish collect service, computerization of services at the cityhall, support to agricultural cooperatives, public lighting in Nkang Village, and the construction of a second public school in the city, responded to people’s needs
To this day, numerous partners are involved in this cooperation, such as the NGO “Agir pour le Développement”, The City of Clermont-Ferrand, Pharmaciens Humanitaires d’Auvergne, and Public Transport Society of Clermont-Ferrand
(SMTC) in coherence with the Millennium Development Objectives (MDO) of United Nations, this partnership is striving to improve people ‘s live. The partnership is supported by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
